Build around 1790 this tunnel was built underneath the Castlefield Basin to deal with the excess waters of the River Medlock not used to supply water to the Bridgewater Canal.

A short water slide greeted us almost straight away and hinted this was going to be good. The box section soon opened up into a beast of a 12 ft RCP, Before long a large shaft rose above the pipe.

Sidedraft is one of the culverts of the Gore Brook, its mostly brick with some concrete thrown in for good measure.
